april '07:  city council priorities

In my April 2007 Newsletter, I listed the Council's priorities for 2007.

march '07:  wi-fi project

The city is considering a city-wide wi-fi network and has gotten proposals from a half-dozen companies.

There has been concerns focused on health and parental control issues. Do you have concerns?

january '07:  election process

Having just gone through the election process with all its vagaries, I am interested in proposing some changes, but before I do, I’m interested in your thoughts.

  1. What do you like about the electoral process in Newport Beach?

  2. What don’t you like?

  3. What suggestions do you have to improve the electoral process?

And don't forget these two issues:

  1. Would you support a lower cap on campaign contributions?

  2. Would you support more stringent sign rules, including a fee to offset City staff costs?

RESPONSE RECAP

Several people responded to my query about election reform. There was no consensus on what should be done, so we’ll continue to talk, but meanwhile staff is going to be proposing some changes for campaign signs because of damage to median vegetation and the amount of staff time taken up in removing signs.
